Time to retune TVs

LOCAL residents will need to retune their televisions this week.
Nanjing Night Net

The retune, a national programme that moves free-to-air television channels to new frequencies, will see Prime7, WIN and Southern Cross Ten changing frequencies on Tuesday, July 22.

These moves, to be completed by the end of 2014, will free up space for new services such as mobile broadband.

After channels have changed, viewers will need to retune their digital TVs, set-top boxes or digital TV recorders to find the channels that have moved.

The retune will affect viewers in Ulladulla who receive their TV signal from the Little Forest Trig TV tower.

Residents who receive their TV signal from the Illawarra TV tower may have retuned earlier this month, but may now need to retune again.

Residents who receive their TV signal from the Nowra North TV tower will retune later in the year.

The best way for residents to find their retune day is by entering their address into the “Get retune info” box on the website at www.retune.digitalready.gov.au/

A video and three-step guide to retuning is available on the website.

Retuning should be done after 5am on July 22 or any day after the retune.

There may be some temporary disruptions to all TV services on the retune day.

Service outages on the days shortly after the retune may also be necessary, due to work being conducted at the transmission site.

The retune simply moves some free-to-air TV channels to a new location on the broadcast spectrum and is unlikely to change TV reception or coverage.

For more information about the retune, or to sign up for an SMS or email reminder, visit the retune website or call the Digital Ready Information Line on 1800 201 013, 8am to 10pm seven days.

The group of councils – in conjunction with Cubic Consulting, Local Government NSW and DOTS Talent Solutions – were recognised for developing high quality industry specific courses.

“This is great, typically big corporates like the banks win these awards. To see local government winning this award demonstrates how innovative we are in this region,” Young Mayor Stuart Freudenstein said.

The award was received for the Centroc Online Training Program which was rolled out to four member councils in 2012.

There are six compliance-based courses being implemented as part of the program.

“Since the initial rollout, Young Shire Council and a further seven additional member councils have come onboard, with a total of over 2000 council staff to be trained via online training,” the mayor said.

“It is a very exciting time for Centroc councils to be involved in this initiative as it offers councils a cost effective solution to meet compliance needs.

“The program was developed using the specialist knowledge of Council staff in this region.

“We are looking at developing new courses for councils and I’m sure the project will continue to grow and be even more successful”.

The LearnX Award ceremony will be held in Melbourne in October 2014.
